Notifications
Settings > Notifications decides who hears about conversations that need attention. Email notifications and Slack are set by owners for the business. Browser notifications and the sound are set by each person, in their own browser.
Email notifications
Off for a new business. When an owner turns on Email notifications, the notification address is their own email address; Change address sets another one, such as a shared support mailbox, under Notification email address.
The notification address gets an email when:
- a draft is awaiting approval. While earlier drafts are still awaiting approval, no further email is sent for 6 hours. A draft about a sensitive topic (safety, legal action, abuse, a payment dispute, strong distress or another sensitive matter) is emailed straight away.
- a customer writes in a conversation where Pip is paused, when nobody is assigned to it. One email per customer email.
- Pip couldn't answer an email in a conversation assigned to nobody. At most one email an hour. See Statuses.
A conversation's assignee gets an email, whatever this setting:
- when Pip couldn't answer an email in their conversation, at most one an hour;
- each time the customer writes in their conversation while Pip is paused in it.
Slack
One Slack channel can get the same notifications, and this month's usage notices. See Slack.
Browser notifications
Browser notifications shows a notification on your computer when the number of conversations that need attention goes up while Airmailer is open only in background tabs, such as "3 conversations need attention". Clicking it opens the Inbox.
- Turning it on asks your browser for permission. If the browser blocks notifications for Airmailer, Settings says Blocked by your browser: allow notifications for this site in the browser's site settings, then reload the page.
- Some browsers, such as Chrome on Android, don't support it; Settings then says Not supported in this browser.
Sound
Sound plays a short chime when the number of conversations that need attention goes up while Airmailer is open. It plays at most once every 5 seconds, however many tabs are open. Play sound plays it once to try it. Off by default.
In the tab title
While Airmailer is open, the browser tab shows the number of conversations that need attention, such as "(3) Inbox | Airmailer". Airmailer checks for changes every 20 seconds while a tab is on screen, and Today, the Inbox and conversations then update themselves, but not while you are typing. In a background tab, it checks every minute, and only while browser notifications or the sound is on.
